Asgeir // King and Cross // Stolen Dance (Triple J’s Like A Version)

I always hear people say “you listened to this song, like, six times in a row now.” Fair enough, maybe I have (actually, yes, I definitely have) – and I respond with that I truly don’t think that there is a particular breed of humans on this planet capable of NOT listening to a good song again once they’ve heard it for the first time.

I remember the one evening in my car that I first played Asgeir. Driving back from LA, I had exhausted my poor “mellow” playlist consisting of favorites Chet Faker and Chet Faker ft. Flume (yes….) So, my good friend Spotify recommended me Asgeir and played King & Cross. Though I undoubtedly fell in love with the sound of Asgeir’s other tracks too, I remembered thinking that this one’s tempo had the most unique flare, with a strange melodic sadness threaded within it.

Asgeir is officially our first Icelandic singer-songerwriter we’ve featured, which is quite exciting, and we’re proud to be slowly making our geographic progression in the world of music discovery. Here’s the twist: he’s only 22. WHAT.

Without putting him in a box with artists other similar experimental sounds, I’m hearing some Kite String Tangle, RY X, and Lo-Fang.

OH….and he’ll be performing at Treasure Island Music Festival at 2pm. If you’re attending, see ya there x
